Kara Chin exhibits in 'Information Wants To Be Free? Art and the Internet' at ADM Gallery, Singapore, running from 24 March – 13 May 2022.
Chin presents a selection of existing animations and virtual sculptures including 'Before Alter', 'Followers', 'Fitbit Worship' and 'Alexa Seance' (2020). Her virtual sculptures rotate slowly on the screen to show each side of the faux-tech-religious artefacts based on ornaments the artist had been looking at on Ebay. The animations take on a more surreal tone, often showing
"Drawing on the development of digital technology and networks, the artists in the exhibition consider and critique the online information economy that governs our daily life; and raise important questions about the commercial exploitation of personal information, and compromised autonomy as a result of Big Tech."
