Nicole Bachmann performs at the 10th Edition of the Whitstable Biennale, UK, running from 11 – 19 June 2022.
Bachmann presents a new performance 'shell of hope, in cycles' (2022) on both Friday 10 June, 16:00-16:40 and Saturday 11 June, 17:00-17:40 at Seasalter beach (near Seasalter Sailing Club). 'shell of hope, in cycles' brings together movement and voice to explore the forming of subjectivity and relationships in our present time. The pressing issues of Brexit, hostile immigration policies and water pollution inform this performance work, which takes place on Seasalter beach – an area intensely affected by these same matters.
"This year’s festival borrows its title from Mimi Khalvati’s evocative poem, 'Afterwardness'. Through the eyes of ‘an eleven year old boy from Aleppo’ the poem explores loss, trauma and the concept of ‘afterwardness’, a term originally coined by Sigmund Freud to describe the belated understanding of events that comes with the passing of time."
