Tarek Lakhrissi exhibits in the group show 'À plusieurs' at FRAC Lorraine, Metz, FR until 15 August 2021.
Lakhrissi's installation 'This Doesn't Belong to Me', which was first presented at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in 2020, is being show at FRAC Lorraine. The installation is comprised of 5 Salamander's tails, which are famously known to be able to be grown back if cut off. Lakhrissi has used this process of regeneration to consider survival techniques and the need for healing over time. The sculptures are created from polyurethane and epoxy resin with a metal core and adorned with chains.
"'À plusieurs' revolves around a process of shifting roles and points of view. Conceived as an open and multipolar platform, the exhibition reveals spaces for artistic exchange based on communities of experiences. Questioning our points of contact with the African continent through hybridity, we wanted to make visible the paths that led us to meetings with these artists, to highlight a support map. The 49 Nord 6 Est - Frac Lorraine thus operates in a new format, welcoming four artists from African diasporas, invited in turn to invite those with whom they collaborate, co-create or dialogue."
