Tarek Lakhrissi exhibits in the group show 'Chapter 4OUR: Abundance' at HetHEM, Het HEM, Zaandam, NL until 23 May 2021.
Lakhrissi is exhibiting his short film ‘Out of the Blue’ (2019, 13:44 mins). The film takes place at a radical moment in time, when a politically conservative era is suddenly coming to an end. Lakhrissi avoids traditional apocalyptic narratives to meditate instead on the nature of transition itself. In the final scene, the film’s central character delivers a thoughtful speech exploring ideas of freedom and liberty, self-determination and queer futurity.
"If anything, the COVID-19 crisis has made us more aware than ever that personal contact and sharing different views are important. Het HEM wants to keep facilitating this in a safe and meaningful way.
We therefore would like to invite you to the preview of our new exhibition Chapter 4OUR: Abundance by Simon(e) van Saarloos. They are a writer, artist and activist who has the unique ability to translate layered philosophical thinking into opinions and views on current social issues.
Abundance refuses the current structures of reality. Abundance opposes the idea of identity stasis. Abundance refutes the notion that you can be knowable and that you must show yourself visibly, that you have to come out proud and sound coherent. Abundance assumes that everything already exists; no existing form is obligated to defend or prove itself. Thinking from abundance is a philosophical attempt that recognises current identity frames, but also encourages to refuse and surpass them. Abundance is the wealth of presence."
